- Steam locomotive E 2/2 No 11 St. Gotthard Railway GB 1881
Construction locomotive of the St. Gotthard Railway
This small locomotive uses the Brown system of lever-drive with elevated cylinders. The British engineer Charles Brown was the major founder of the Swiss Locomotive & Machine Works (SLM). He designed this special driving arrangement to reduce the width of the locomotive immediately above rail level. This type of construction was particularly suited for construction and factory locomotives as well as steam tramways.
