Switzerland’s most successful car marque
With sites in Frauenfeld, Canton Thurgau and St-Blaise, Canton Neuchatel, former arms manufacturer Martini was Switzerland’s largest carmaker, producing around 2,000 vehicles between 1897 and 1934. Martini was also the country’s longest-lived marque for passenger cars. In the first quarter of the 20th century Switzerland was home to numerous independent carmakers and a dynamic automotive trade. Among the best-known marques were Ajax, Arbenz, Berna, Egg & Egli, FBW, Fischer, Henriod, Maximag, Orion, Pic-Pic, Saurer, Sigma, Stella, Tribelhorn, Turicum and Zedel.
