From „Morris Garages“ to MG
Cecil Kimber’s „Morris Garages“ workshop in Abingdon on Thames modified cars of the Morris brand in the 1920s, before the company started to build its own vehicles under the shorthand symbol MG. The TC appears shortly after the end of the Second World War. Under the motto „Export or die“, only companies that sell abroad receive the necessary raw materials. MG profits from its reputation among returning US soldiers, and the TC becomes the first foreign car to be successfully imported into the USA.
Overtaken by time
The owner of this car always used to drive it open, until health reasons persuaded him to give the car away. He was also concerned about still driving around without indicators or a headlight flasher in 1965.
„If there’s still oil in 50 years’ time“
In 1965, the donor thought that, after being handed over to the Transport Museum, the car would certainly be so well looked after that it would still be able to take part in a rally in 50 years’ time, if oil was still available then.
