New alignment after 1945
The Panhard & Levassor company, founded in 1889 and a manufacturer of up-market cars up to 1939, realizes that a radical change to its range of models will be necessary if it wants to stay in the market after the Second World War.
Small cars with great performance gross
Panhard establishes itself as a manufacturer of unusual small cars. Front-wheel drive, the use of light metals for the bodywork and a high revving Boxer engine that is extremely powerful for its size ensure an excellent performance with a modest fuel consumption.
Committed to the engine right up to the downfall
The Dyna Z1 is introduced on the 17th of June 1953. It will be built up to May 1956. Although a liaison with Citroën arises in 1955, the development of a new 4-cylinder engine is not supported by the larger partner. Panhard is forced to do the best it can with the small 2-cylinder Boxer engine motor. The firm is swallowed up by Citroën in 1965, and Panhard disappears from the civil market two years later.
