Moped culture
The "auto-cycle" has been known in Switzerland since 1961. it is allowed to be ridden from the age of 14. Maximum allowed speed is 30 km/h at 0.8 b.h.p. with manual or 1.2 b.h.p with Automatic gear-change. However, these limits are often too tight for the youngsters. This is where souping up begins; the motto is " the faster the cooler"!
Puch from Graz
In 1954, the Puch company in Graz, founded in 1899, presented its first moped. A series of successful models followed, in particular, the Maxi, presented in 1969. In 1987, when the moped market virtually collapsed due to the obligation to wear helmets and the mountain bike boom, Puch discontinued production. The brand name was taken over by Piaggio.
Easy Rider for Teenagers
Long forks, high handlebars, Sissy-bar (backrest), a chromium plated fuel tank and, who knows, souped-up pistons for more power. In 1975, this was the teenage tinkerer's dream, inspired by the 1969 film "Easy Rider" with Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda.
