Bultaco Tralla 101
Spain 1959
Rapid success
The “Tralla” is the first motorcycle produced by Francisco Xavier “Paco” Bulto’s Bultaco factory. Bulto has considerable motorcycle manufacturing experience, and solid technology, impressive performance and sporting success mean that there is enthusiastic demand for the model. In the very first year of manufacturing them, the company produces over 1,000 125 cm3 motorcycles in Barcelona.
Spanish storm over the English Armada
The “Tralla” (Spanish for whip) is a street motorcycle. But Bultaco’s international breakthrough comes with all-terrain trials. When the most important event of the year, the Scottish Six Days, ends in absolute triumph for Bultaco in 1965, it spells the end of Great Britain’s dominance of motorcycling.
A Spanish relic in Swiss ownership
After long strikes, Bultaco goes into liquidation in 1985. The Tralla with the Number 1 chassis, which has decorated the Bultaco director’s room, is given to the Swiss importer as compensation for undelivered goods which have been paid for, and ultimately finds its way into the Swiss Museum of Transport.
