A Trailblazer
In 1990 the Velocity-E-Bike was type-tested and approved as a "motor assisted pedal cycle". The legal obligation to wear a helmet, a sales-killer, was not applied in this case, because the electric motor only assisted the pedal action but did not replace it. Thus. the Velocity became the very first a vehicle of this type.
Divided power
The differential drive, a sophisticated and at the same time simple conversion of the conventional rear wheel hub, made it possible to use the combination of motor and muscle power as needed. As one of the power sources weakens the more power output is produced by the other.
Success story
In regard to the E-Bike, Switzerland may boast not only of having developed the bike from a concept to series-production readiness but also of having implemented it's a successful marketing. The combination of a private spirit of innovation and the support of public funding brought the highest density of E-bikes after Japan.
