A child of its time
The Velosolex is a child of its time. Because of the economic austerity during the occupation of France from 1940 to 1945, the largest carburettor producer in the country started development work on a motorised bicycle from 1941. The “cyclomoteur” was introduced in 1946.
Unbeatable value
For the price of a good bicycle, the buyer received a motorised vehicle which was easy to operate. It also used up just one litre of a fuel mixture called “Solexine” (lead-free petrol with 6% oil) every 100 km, which made operating costs incredibly low.
Simple but precise
The Solex is simple but manufactured with the utmost precision. Its success is legendary: between 1946 and 1988, hundreds of thousands of these purring cult vehicles left the manufacturer’s factories, as well as those of several foreign licensees – as in the case of our model, which was manufactured by Hispano-Suiza in Geneva.
