This changed at a stroke, when in 1932 Swissair put into service two American aircraft of type Lockheed “Orion” with retractable undercarriage and a smooth aerodynamic shape. With their speed of 330 km/h, they were superior to aircraft such as the Comte AC-4 and the Fokker CV-E.
