Aviation meetings inspire the general public
At the aviation meeting held in Reims in 1909, hundreds of thousands of people were inspired for the first time. The supremacy of the Wright’s aircraft was put into perspective by new records: the longest flight (180 km) by Henry Farman, the fastest flights (75 and 77 km/hr) by Glenn Curtiss and Louis Blériot and the height record (155 m) by Hubert Latham. Other events made aviation popular in many countries.
