The jet revolution
Sound barrier broken in Switzerland as well
Switzerland was the first country in the world to go over entirely to jet-powered military aircraft from 1947 to 1956: De Havilland DH-100 „Vampire“ and DH-112 „Venom“. The sound barrier was broken for the first time in a dive with the Hawker „Hunter“, purchased from 1958 and with the Dassault „Mirage III“ introduced from 1966. With a top speed of 2350 km/h, this aircraft was capable of more than twice speed of sound.
