Hansom Cab, Switzerland ca. 1890
London taxi without an engine
Thousands of Hansom Cabs were on the London roads as taxis at the end of the 19th century. Usually built for two passengers, these two-wheelers were very manoeuvrable and the coachman had a good vantage point from his high box. The exquisite Hansom Cab on show was made by the famous coachbuilders Reinbolt & Christen in Basel about 1890. It is a rare private version with a particularly elegant design.
