General Electric Gas turbine T-58-6 JD2 for Supramar ST 3A, USA 1967
Aviation turbine for hydrofoil boats
Whereas world wide already over 100 jetfoils were in regular use, on 20 November 1967 a world’s first stirred up a great deal of interest from the media on Lake Lucerne. Commissioned by the USA Navy, Supramar developed a small speed hydrofoil boat. As a test boat, the ST 3A was the first to have a fully hydrofoil with a so-called air control which changed the buoyancy in such a way that a balance could be made again and again. In addition, the boat was experimentally driven by an aviation turbine. The gas turbine however in spite of its 1000 HP did not bring the desired success.
