Segeljacht SY Pen Duick VI, konstruiert durch André Mauric, gebaut von DCNS Direction des Constructions Navales. Eine sogennate Ketsch (auch Ketch = Segelboot mit zwei Masten, dem vorderen Grossmast und dem achterlichen, immer kleineren Besanmast). Mit der Pen Duick VI gewann die französische Segler-Legende Eric Tabarly (1931-1998) die Solo-Transatlantik-Regatta von 1976. Sailing yacht SY Pen Duick VI, France 1973 (1:40) Woven synthetic fibre sails Most modern sails consist of a woven synthetic cloth, made from polyester fibre. The brand name “Dacron” is popularly used as a generic term for the sails, the majority of which are white in colour. These sails exhibit scarcely any creasing and are extremely UV-resistant. The disadvantages lie in the lower breaking strength compared to high-tech sailcloth and in the great elasticity that is unable to convert the wind energy directly enough into forward motion. French yachting legend Eric Tabarly (1931-1998) used Pen Duick VI to win the 1976 Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race, repeating his achievement of 1964. With his many victories, he was not only a role model but also for many years the opponent of Pierre Fehlmann, the pioneer of Swiss ocean racing, winner in 1985/86 of the leading yacht race of the time, the “Whitbread Round the World Race”.
