Functioning model, scale 1:20, of the shuttle railway Stand - Kleintitlis, LTKT
(2nd section, Trübsee - Kleintitlis), built 1967
Revealed at a glance: The secrets of a modern aerial railway
Planned as an extension to the aerial railway Gerschnialp - Trübsee already opened in 1927, the two-cable shuttle railway Trübsee - Titlis was built in two sections. The first, from Trübsee to Stand started operating in 1965. The 2nd section Stand - Kleintitlis was inaugurated on 15th March 1967. It leads from the glacier restaurant Stand, 2450 m, as a high alpine suspension railway over the fissures and gullies of the Titlis glacier to the Kleintitlis station on the peak, 3020 m high. Because this section goes over terrain that is impassable on foot, it is equipped with an auxiliary cable all the way through and an auxiliary cabin. Otherwise its technical features correspond to those of the first section. As a two-cable shuttle railway it has two support cables (diameter 44 mm). On the running gear of each cabin (capacity: 80 passengers) a tow cable and a landing cable are mounted. An electronic remote-control system permits a fully automatic drive without the need for an operator at the controls in the valley station.
The functioning model of this railway on the scale 1:20 shows in a simplified version all the essential technical characteristics of this modern, two-cable shuttle aerial railway.
