Pilot Marcel Doret and mechanic in front of the aircraft in Thun
1925
In 1925, Switzerland purchased two all-metal Dewoitine D-1 fighter aircraft in France. The picture shows the two machines (F-AHAC and F-AHAD) at the end of the successful delivery flight from Paris to Thun with chief pilot of the Dewotine factory, Marcel Doret (1896 - 1955) and a mechanic. The aircraft were given the registration numbers 671 and 672 and were used for troop trials. Following successful trials and after the failure of his own development in wood, Emile Dewoitine was employed by the Federal Aircraft Factory in Thun. He subsequently developed the Swiss Dewotine D-27 and D-26 military aircraft which were built in large numbers.
Bequeathed to the Aero-Archiv (Swiss Aero Club), donor Walter Dollfus, Zurich. Conserved with support by MEMORIAV.
