Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray C2 Coupé
USA 1966
Swiss origin
Louis Chevrolet is born in 1878 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. After emigrating into the USA, he works as a mechanic and becomes a successful racing driver. With General Motors founder Billy Durant, whose Buick he is driving, he begins building cars under his own name from 1911.
However, differences of opinion lead Chevrolet to resign from his firm in 1913.
Footnote or icon?
The first "Corvette", built in 1953 in response to the importation of European sports cars, consists of a hodgepodge of GM parts and seems destined for failure. Only 300 units can be sold in the first year.
Corvette the second
The second generation, presented in 1963, apart from the engine, is a completely new motorcar. The Stingray now sells 20,000 times a year. Also in Switzerland, the Corvette has enjoyed great popularity up to today. The owner of our model was a founding member of the Swiss car club "Corvette Unlimited".
