Crossair Modest beginnings 1975-1978 As a DC-9 captain with Swissair, Moritz Suter from Basel is convinced that regional air traffic modelled on the American system, using small passenger planes on scheduled services between small airports, could be made into a success in Europe too. Together with Peter Kalt, a friend from his youth, he founds his own company “Business-Flyers Basel AG” in 1975 and buys two used light aircraft. The company is granted an operating permit for non-scheduled flights and at first does not have any permanent staff. The company makes a successful start as an air taxi and business flight operator.
