The Swearingen Metroliners II and III are the workhorses of Crossair’s early days. In 1980, the company opens up Lugano-Agno airport for scheduled flights. Commemorative card to mark the 10th anniversary with Metroliner II in special livery and Moritz Suter’s autograph.

1978-1993
In 1978 the company changes its name to “Crossair”. In 1979 the new airline is given a licence to operate scheduled flights and begins with services to Nuremberg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt. More destinations are added, including domestic flights to Lugano and Sion. Swissair sees its monopoly endangered, but when the public sides with the smaller of the two companies, Swissair and Crossair agree, in 1982, to allocate their resources between themselves. In time both companies increase their collaboration with each other. In 1988 Swissair buys a share of stock in Crossair and eventually takes a majority stake in 1991.
