TIMEmachine – Atomic Wall Clock from TIMEstandard, Switzerland 2016
Atomic clocks designed for space travel have no display – this atom wall clock from Swiss manufacturer TIMEstandard does – and what a display. Starting from the left, six blocks of digits give the day, month, year, hours, minutes and seconds. Unlike other clocks, there is no delay between the time and its display, since the time impulses are transmitted to the display at the speed of light. Reading the time is something of a challenge, however: it requires the numbers of each block to be added.
Handcrafted by TIMEstandard, the clock deviates by no more than one second in 317 years. Once installed, it takes into account the rotation of the Earth and leap seconds until the year 4095 fully automatically, i.e. without human intervention or reception of radio signals. This atomic clock was developed by the manufacturer in collaboration with Spectratime, which also supplies atomic clocks to the aerospace sector.
