Cabin of the Zeppelin NT “Baden-Württemberg” (D-LZZF), Germany 2003
Modern airship cabin
Zeppelin NT (New Technology) airships date from 1997 and follow in the tradition of airships constructed in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH has, to date, built six such airships. They have been used for conducting passenger services, for advertising purposes, and for research and observation missions.
Unlike its historical forebears, the NT is heavier than air (hence it is said to fly rather than float). It climbs with the aid of its three swivel-mounted propeller engines. The rear engine is also equipped with a steering propeller that provides lateral thrust. The pilot steers the airship by means of a joystick.
This first-generation cabin comes from Zeppelin NT serial number SN 003 (maiden flight 2003). It can accommodate two crew and 12 passengers. After 12,210 flying hours and 12,484 landings, it was replaced by a new cabin in the autumn of 2014.
